When searching for the perfect brands for The Shelter, designer and The Shelter creator Vicki Taylor could not look past Danish designer Barbara Gongini.

Barbara Gongini graduated in 1996 from the Denmark School of Design at the Institute of Unica Design, and quickly established herself as one of Denmark’s most avant-garde designers. In the last 18 years she has developed her vision as part of a pensive dialogue between design, form and function. She currently presents her collections in Copenhagen, Milan and Paris.

Her collection present a different take on Nordic garments, derived from a conceptual approach towards fashion design. The specific construction process is aimed at crafting garments eloquently suitable for both men and women. Structural forms are challenged and experimental pattern-making shape and solemn backdrop for contemporary tailoring.

Barbara Gongini aims to contribute to local and global responsibility by pushing the boundaries of ethical fashion. The understated yet innovative collections are due to a meticulous creative process, where design is based on continuous evolvement.

The designer is an active participant in the Nordic art discourse, working in close collaboration with various artists in film, music and photography. The sets a reflective tone for her creative process and in turn, her work has been featured by artisans across borders in the spirit of her collaborative nature.
