The latest addition to our homewares fold is German born, New Zealand based potter Elena Renker.
After immersing herself in a variety of Graphic Design courses, pottery lessons, and finally completing a Dimploma in Ceramic Art at Otago Polytechnic, it's safe to say that Renker knows the tricks of the trade.
Her focus is to make functional ware that can be used in everyday life. Her pieces are equally as beautiful to look at as they are pleasant to use. Each is made with a purpose in mind, a vase to showcase the flowers beauty, dining ware crafted to compliment the food served in it.
The process in which Renker takes to fire her ceramics is what sets her pieces apart from the rest. Her work with shino pottery is complimented with her home wood fired kiln. With ash from the kiln having an effect on the clay and glaze, it added a point of difference and unique character to each ware.
