AAA Select Presents Motomu Oyama at The Shelter

This weekend something special is coming to The Shelter: presented by our friends An Astute Assembly, we are delighted to introduce the work of Japanese artist and artisan Motomu Oyama.

Originally practising as a graphic designer, the properties and possibilities of iron proved irresistible to Oyama, who evolved his practice from the 2D to the 3D through his experimentation with the element. Moving from Tokyo back to his home town Kumage, Yamaguchi, Oyama is inspired by the lush nature surrounding his studio. The elegance of Oyama's work belies the hard, coldness we usually associate with iron.

The result is a range of both abstract sculptural objects, and functional household utensils and vessels - all of which constructed from iron, and displaying Oyama's signature surface treatments, including a level of blackening and corrosion that lend a patina of age.

Join us at The Shelter from Friday 8th of December to view and share in the beauty of Motomu Oyama's work. A range of limited, hand crafted and one of a kind pieces will also be available for purchase from The Shelter.
