BERNHARD WILLHELM
Posted:
Bernhard Willhelm through his own making has always lived a ‘rather abstract life’ and as a result has become one of the most influential indie designers of his time. Willhelm is truly a modern designer in every essence, as a classic dressmaker who pushes the bounds of his brand and moves towards a progressively inclusive future.
Being an alumnae of the Royal Academy of Fine Arts in Antwerp, he has worked his fashion finesse whilst living all over the world including Germany, Belgium, Japan, Italy and America and as a result, has an almost incomparable experience in the world of fashion. Willhelm explains that he moves around as he enjoys exploring new ways of existing as a designer and the influence this has on his work.

We asked Bernhard some tough questions and gained some insight into how his crazy creative mind tinkers:
If you were stranded on an island, what three things would you take with you?
I could never decide as this would be a spontaneous decision and beyond my control.
What if the best piece of advice you've ever received or given?
I have always been inspired by Nina Hagen and she sung;
If you could have dinner with three people dead or alive, who would they be?
The ultimate dinner would be with people from all over the world from different cultures, seated at the same table. Snacks would be essential.
Willhelm’s work exudes absurdity and high fashion through colour, volume and themed creations that defy gender or stereotypical fashion conventions. The Shelter holds a refined collection of Bernhard Willhelm including casual t-shirt dresses with iconic prints as well as draped trench coats and oversized shorts perfect for seasonal social events. Take a crowds breath away this summer with a little crazy from one of The Shelter’s iconic designers, Bernhard Willhelm.
