ISSEY MIYAKE 132 5 LIGHT TRAILS
Posted:
Introducing a new collection, Traces of Time AW 23/24 to The Shelter. This time, the research of 132 5. Issey Miyake challenges the expression of time. Using motifs such as dominoes falling in succession, hourglass shapes, geological formations that mark the passage of time, and light trails passing through an intersection.
Having built a reputation for merging technology and fashion, Issey Miyake 132 5. Plays with methods of design far beyond conventional garment construction.
Thanks to a collaboration with professor and computer scientist Jun Mitani, the 132 5. team convinced an algorithm that creates unique 3D geometric shapes that can be folded into 2D forms, which are then heat pressed to become folded shirts, pants, skirts and dresses.
“LIGHT TRAILS”
Colours are alternatively layered to give contours to the abstract flow of time. The beginning of the series uses the traditional technique of Chusen, in which dye is poured into a mold. It expresses trails of light through the gradation created by pouring dye simultaneously from the top and bottom, as the fabric is turned diagonally to make the dye patterns intersect.
The light trails dress fabric is textured, yet wrinkle-resistant, made using a blend of recycled polyester and linen.
“PYRAMID”
A series inspired by pyramids, combining triangular parts to form a three-dimensional structure. Beginning as a flat triangle, the pants and top folded out to reveal angular pleats
“BRICK”
The Brick Knit is a non-sewn knit, characterised by its silhouette created from graphically arranged rectangles that appear like alternating stacked bricks, crafted in 100% wool yarn.
Lying flat, the Brick gives the illusion of a Tetris block.
“NO.1 JACQUARD”
NO.1 series develops the basic fold structures of the Issey Miyake line. Creating a new dynamic look by arranging stripes of different thicknesses in a cut jacquard. Recycled polyester thread is used for the warp.
“FLAT TUCK”
A building block for the collection, The Shelter welcomes back the Flat Tuck pants and jacket. The series is crafted in a plant-derived polyester.
A tall collar, allows you to modify the shape and impression, by changing the way the collar is closed.
