Introducing 029A Jimmy’s Quest: A Femme Fantasy Adventure from New Zealand fashion’s cool kid, Jimmy D.

This season, the genesis of designer James Dobson’s colourful collections was inspired by the work of Tāmaki Makaurau based artist Aliyah Winter and her video works - specifically her film work entitled 'Rage’.

Collaborating with Aliyah Winter and textile designer, Jason Gibson, translated film stills from “Rage” into a fabric print, pulsing with bright bursts of colour and chaotic with data moshed imagery. From there they imagined a computer game titled “Jimmy’s Quest: A Femme Fantasy Adventure” basing it on the idea of very early computer games that Jimmy D designer James Dobson played. From very early text adventure games to role-playing games like Space Quest with very primitive graphics. Aliyah Winter created a text print that imagines the gameplay from Jimmy’s Quest, and a glow-in-the-dark “cyber green” base is scattered with glowing fireballs - the kind that characters would fire at each other in computer games.

James never fails to wow when he does the window installation and this season was no exception. Working in collaboration with Aliyah Winter again they took over for an in-your-face multi-media colourful extravaganza. Check it out below.
