MEET NOAH

This week we welcome our newest team member on board with The Shelter. Noah will be our new Shelter store manager, with an extensive creative and retail background. We sat down with Noah to learn more her background, personal style and what keeps her inspired. Be sure to come in store to get to know Noah yourself!

Tell me a little bit about yourself and where you came from?

I am a born and raised Aucklander and have been in retail since the age of 16 during high school and University. I spent some time doing a creative writing degree at Auckland University before deciding to move to Melbourne. While there I worked under Australian Designers; Arthur Galan, Godwin Charli and Alice Mcall managing their flagship stores. In 2018 I moved back to New Zealand in order to be closer to my family. I have spent the last year and half as a regional manager for a Eyewear company doing an array of work from Human resources to Visual merchandising. I also have helped out at our family Tattoo and Tatatau studio in Eden Terrace called Small Axe Studio. I am by no means good with a tattoo gun, but I managed the Business and Social media side of things and general chit chat with awaiting (nervous) clients!

My time in Melbourne has been a never ending gift. I loved living in Melbourne and built an amazing group of creative friends who are all doing incredible things. I have some friends who have just opened a beautiful Salon called S T A C H E in Brunswick and another kiwi who has started his own label called Zenophen.

How would you describe your signature style and what does style mean to you?

I would say that I have quite a temperamental style that is always dependant on my mood. The majority of my wardrobe is black with an extensive collection of puffer jackets and coats in beautiful bold colours that I have accumulated over years of working in the cold snaps in Melbourne. I am also a sucker for beautiful dresses that remind me of the 70s . An era full of glamour that I love embodying and referencing in my own looks whenever I can. Bianca Jagger, Michelle Pfeiffer, Edie Sedgwick and Twiggy. Lastly anything oversized is great - the more absurdly oversized the better, I love my frame getting lost in a silhouette. I think there is a certain power in that!

What are the essential items you think every woman should have in her wardrobe?

I think that every women should have a beautiful tailored suit, and if not a suit at least a beautiful tailored blazer. I am loving the Recessive blazer paired with the Transpire pants from taylor this season.

What is inspiring you at the moment, and how do you stay inspired?

I find people are such a big source of inspiration and learning about what makes people tick. I am also doing a lot of self-development work. Recently I have been listening to Dr Andrew Huberman who talks about the neuroscience of the brain and how if humans work on successfully managing their habits we will be of better service to each other! As well as meditating which I’ve been trying to stick to each day.

What does your ideal weekend look like?

I love cooking, trying new recipes and throwing together dinner parties where I can cook for all of my friends and family. I’ve been working my way through the Rick Stein Far eastern odyssey cookbook which I highly recommend. I enjoy working out on a Sunday morning, then having brunch and coffee somewhere new and visiting my nana.

Finally what are you most excited about in your new role as the Shelter Manager?

Being surrounded by new creative humans, meeting the clientele and also working with some of the most amazing New Zealand and International brands.
