We've just received our latest drop of the genius that is Issey Miyake 132 5. A union of mathematics and fashion, there are 10 basic two-dimensional patterns that make up the collections, with the eventual garments and accessories being decided by the lines the patterns are cut along and their position. Variations are created utilising the patterns in various scales and combinations. The project was inspired by the work of computer scientist Jun Mitani who creates three-dimensional structures with smoothly curved surfaces by folding flat materials.
This season 132 5. ISSEY MIYAKE takes its inspiration from the concept of wrapping. The beauty of form and the comfort of cloth as it envelops the body.
Modify Dress - Charcoal, Please note the animation of the dress is slightly different from the picture Modify Dress, but they are the same fundamental shape.
As always, the collection conveys the fascination of three-dimensional forms being made from a flat surface; the wonder of opening up what is folded and enclosed, both of which lend themselves to organic forms created by fabrics soft to touch. The collection reflects on everyday life, as it integrates the simplicity in the act of wrapping and enveloping.
Part of the range is the Furoshiki series inspired by the Japanese culture of wrapping cloths. The series is characterised by its broad silhouette using plenty of light fabric while various silhouettes can be created by tying the ends of the fabric. Made from a light recycled polyester fabric and has two pockets on the front. The silhouettes can be arranged by connecting the left and right fabric edges like a furoshiki. In addition to tying in the front, you can enjoy a different style by hanging the fabric on the back of your shoulders and tying the tip of the fabric to your arms.
