NZ SPOTLIGHT | NOM*D

NOM*d is a New Zealand brand that looks outside of trends, with a focus on utilitarian garments that will stand the test of time. This has kept the label alive and kicking for over 34 years. With a focus on supporting local we talked to the label about manufacturing here in Aotearoa.

What does manufacturing in NZ mean/bring to your label?

We have been manufacturing in NZ since our inception in 1986, our customers know they are supporting a dedicated local product and are familiar with our quality and longevity.

Big Dunedin Tee, Nasty Neil Tee

How many outworkers/workers do you employ a season to create a seasonal collection?

We work with around six different factories all based in New Zealand. Auckland, Hawkes Bay, Christchurch and Dunedin, they are all chosen to produce different qualities within the collection, whether that’s knitwear, t-shirting etc.

How many hours of work goes into a creating a New-Zealand made product?

It is very varied! It depends on what type of garment you mean; a t-shirt to sew may take 30 minutes however to stencil print it and process it would take another hour. A Tailored Coat which is very hands on first needs to be cut and then it would take two days to sew.
